Motor Vehicle Points For Common New Jersey Traffic Violations
For most people, the only experience they will have with our criminal justice system is being stopped for a traffic offense. Unfortunately, traffic tickets are serious matters and should not be taken lightly. An accumulation of too many points can result in an administrative loss of license. Once an individual’s driving privileges have been revoked or suspended, he or she is no longer authorized to drive on our roads. If he or she is caught and found guilty of driving while suspended, the penalties become even graver, potentially impacting not only one’s ability to drive but also, under certain circumstances, one’s liberty. For general reference, here is a brief summary of motor vehicle points associated with certain traffic offenses. It is taken from N.J.S.A. 39:5-30. It is important to note that only motor vehicles points are referenced here. Points assessed by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission are not the same as insurance eligibility points.
