Higher Penalties For Unauthorized Practice Of Immigration Law Being Considered

In December of 2011, the New Jersey Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee recommended passage of Bill A-1050, a bill that upgrades the unauthorized practice of immigration law from a fourth-degree crime to a third-degree crime. The penalties for a third-degree crime in New Jersey include a potential incarceration from three to five years in state prison and a fine up to $15,000.
